I had been delaying the inevitable until last week when I finally set myself up with a doctor’s appointment for both my knee and hand. I had sustained injuries to both while playing outdoor soccer and only exacerbated them by continuing to play outdoor as well as indoor. I was able to put it off for about a month and continue to play by just wearing a brace on my knee but the problem wasn’t getting any better. So I went in and got the doc’s to check me out.
Last week I had x-rays of both my hand and knee, they came back showing no broken bones, which is good. Since I had considerable swelling in my hand and having it still very sore to the touch my doctor gave me a brace to wear of which I’m sure some of you saw, big poofy uncomfortable thing it is.
He could also tell that even though there weren’t any broken bones visible from the x-ray on my knee that further tests were needed so I was set up for an MRI on Tuesday at 10:00am. That whole experience was quite interesting. It wasn’t bad, just boring, I think I almost fell asleep even with how loud those things are. They give you ear plugs if that tells you anything. There was a nice little lighted mural on the ceiling that looked like I could have been laying on my back in a park looking up as the clouds floated by, nice atmosphere.
I got the results of that MRI back yesterday during the visit back to the doctor’s office and there was visible damage to the MCL on my right knee and damage to another ligament of which I cannot pronounce, go figure. Luckily the injury will not require surgery, but I will still be out of action for a while. The doctor’s orders: no physicality for 4-6 weeks and then light rehab leg-work that I can do all on my own. Well isn’t that grand, no more soccer for me this year, or softball, or anything else like running for that matter. Then again I kinda knew I was going to have to take some time off, so It’s not THAT much of a shocker, just frustrating. Like you’ve heard before I plan to apply for the FBI next year and being careful about this rehab is important if I’m going to be in peak physical shape for all those requirements they have for employment.
Until next time…
