Stars Win, KISS loses

KISS TributeTonight my Dad and I went to the Dallas vs. Minnesota Wild game at American Airlines Center. It was pretty great. The jumped out to an early lead only 13 seconds in and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night with them winning 4-2 and thoroughly dominating Minnesota.

Anyways, obviously it’s near , so lots of crazy and promotions happen around this time of year. It just so happens that prior to the game a KISS tribute band from Dallas named Destroyer played in the plaza outside the south entrance to the AAC. These guys were pretty lame and anyone that knows me knows that I’m not the most P.C. guy around and make my fair share of inappropriate jokes but when my Dad mentions how fruity you are as “Paul Stanley” then that’s not a good thing.

Stars Win Quarterfinals

Dallas Stars

For the fifth straight year the defending Stanley Cup champions have failed to make it out of at least the first round of the playoffs. The Dallas bumped off the once “Mighty” Ducks of Anaheim 4-1 last night for a 4-2 best of 7 quarterfinal series win.

The Ducks drew first blood in the second period to break a 0-0 tie but the blew it open in the third period by scoring two quick goals in the first three minutes from Robidas and Barnes. Loui Eriksson added the third goal via breakaway and Modano tapped in and empty netter with 3.3 seconds left which resulted in green and gold streamers to descend from the rafters.

Holiday Recap

I just sat down at my desk at the office for the first time in nearly two weeks and the time that has passed has been quite relaxing. I started it all off with a day off Friday before leaving Lubbock for Dallas and with the fam’. Saturday saw over for cooking out, , and Dallas football. Sunday was Mass with the and then a small Marcus reunion at the Lewisville Fox & Hound.

Tuesday I stopped by and visited with some old and was extended an invite for a party the next day with their . on Wednesday was great because it was small, nothing extravagant, and relaxing. After Mass and a bit of lunch we headed over to the McKee’s for their party and gift exchange. I managed to snag myself a monster universal remote for those that are visually challenged. I’m thinking of giving it to Katie and her roommates.

Wednesday my Dad and I enjoyed the Dallas whipping up on the Minnesota Wild at the American Airlines center. We both picked up some gear with some of our cash. Thursday was a trip to the to see Natioinal Treasure: Book of Secrets. I highly recommend it, very entertaining. Friday I was able to switch my flight to Lubbock to Houston instead to spend the rest of the break with Katie and her .

Friday night we watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights after getting back from the airport. Saturday was a day trip to the 40 acre plot of land that Katie’s parents and aunt/uncle purchased last year. They have built a cool shed on it and will begin house building on it next month. Kevin and I picked out our perfect spot for a kick butt treehouse that we will hopefully be able to complete over the next year. Katie and I saw I Am Legend. We both had a very “eh” feeling when it was over, not feeling one way or the other on it.

Sunday was a relax and hang out day before our 8 hour drive from Houston to Lubbock on Monday morning.

Stars 8 Wild 3

Stars 8 Wild 3

To say that the evening was a Wild one is both cheesy and cliche but I’m going to do it anyways. Tonight’s game was a Wild one for several reasons. One of those reasons was they had their highest scoring game since November ‘05. The other reason was because, well, they were playing the Minnesota Wild. Their fan base is comprised of all the old bitter and booty hurt fans that hated the for leaving them over 10 years ago for Dallas.

I had gotten my Dad some sweet for and he was nice enough to take me. It was great. The scored 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, and capped it off with 4 more in the 3rd period for that grand total of 8. Total domination. Now as long as the win on Saturday and Texas wins on New Years then I will be a happy camper. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez)

30 Games In 30 Nights

Steve WilliamsonEveryday fans do crazy things but for 30 nights Steve Williamson did something crazier. He attended 30 NHL games in 30 nights in 30 different cities. I always enjoy seeing sporting events in towns other than Dallas (hometown) just to see how different the atmosphere is for each city or team. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do this and be able to ever justify the amount of money he spent on this trip to Katie. go check out his blog for more info. He beat me to Dallas by about two and a half weeks to watch the play the Coyotes. 30gamesin30nights.com
