Br. Peter

As most of you know my brother Jesse no longer lives in the U.S. but in studying to become a monk. This past week he took his Simple Vows and took a new monastic name of Br. Peter. My parents were lucky enough to be able to visit for this occasion and here is my Dad’s account of the trip:

Hi Everyone,

We headed over last Saturday to attend Jesse’s reading of his Vow Chart.

We arrived Sunday morning; 2 hrs flight time to Atlanta and another 9 hrs to Rome, then a 2 hr drive to Norcia in the mountains, left us pretty beat. There was a tournament in town and all the hotels were booked solid, so we stayed with the Poor Claire’s. The nun’s have a section of their convent that they use as a bed & breakfast. Its simple, but they can really cook! Jesse had a chance to spend a bit of time with us between Vespers and Compline, so we took a walk outside the walls of the town and through the marshes. The sky was such a deep blue and the hills on all sides were tall green pastures or forest lands. Jesse is re-reading LOTR and says it reminds him of Rohan. Its truly a beautiful place.

Partially There

ACLToday I was lucky enough to get the results back from my MRI that I had taken of my left knee last Friday. My PCP (Primary Care Physician) called me with the report that I had torn my ACL, strained my MCL with damage nearly torn, had large areas of bone marrow edema (deep tissue bone bruises), and moderate size joint effusion (severe joint bruising). I did this all on April 15th during a game and then re-injured it during a fall in my shed a week later.

It Does a Body Good

Life has been good over this last week and here are a few reasons why:

I formally started in my new position at , preparing all IT related things for the new hospital opening. I played with Andy until 3am Sunday morning and broke even on the night by getting my $5 buy-in back for coming in second. I had my first game with Fishbones in almost six months, scored a goal, and we won the game. I also bid on Sarah and Jenni’s date at the CSA Date Auction which included dinner at Stella’s, Cold Stone coupons, free games of bowling, and free appetizers at Joe’s Crab Shack, but I’ll have to share it all with Pat, hahaha.

All in all it was a pretty good week.

The Writing’s on the Wall

MRI of the right KneeI had been delaying the inevitable until last week when I finally set myself up with a doctor’s appointment for both my knee and hand. I had sustained injuries to both while playing outdoor and only exacerbated them by continuing to play outdoor as well as indoor. I was able to put it off for about a month and continue to play by just wearing a brace on my knee but the problem wasn’t getting any better. So I went in and got the doc’s to check me out.

Last week I had x-rays of both my hand and knee, they came back showing no broken bones, which is good. Since I had considerable swelling in my hand and having it still very sore to the touch my doctor gave me a brace to wear of which I’m sure some of you saw, big poofy uncomfortable thing it is.

Holy Melodas

Last night I had my second (outdoor ) game this season against the Holy Melodas team. This was the team we played against three weeks ago when I seriously banged up my knee, still feeling the effects of it. Well the guy I hit had his ankle all wrapped up, so I don’t feel like a complete baby, he still needs a little extra support, too. The first half got off to a bad start with a Penalty Kick because of a bad bounce into one of our defenders arms in the box for a hand-ball. Just one of those calls you have to make, otherwise it will look bad. One of their players informed me it was the only goal they had scored so far this season, bummer. Near the end of the first half I was able to set Jesse up for a nice tap in from about 6 yards out, tieing the game at 1-1 going into the half. Then in the second half we had the wind AND we were going down hill, both of those really helped, we didn’t have any subs and they had three, so we were gettin’ winded. Needless to say that’s when we turned it on. Along with the assist in the first half I had two goals in the second half. Albert and Carlos were each able to put one away as well and that contributed to the final score of 5-1.

6 in a Row

Update: If you need my new address just call me and I can give it to you.

The last week has been a pretty busy one so I haven’t had much time to write, especially with my Internet being down for the past 4+ days. That was a hassle but got it taken care of yesterday when the SuddenLink guy came and crawled around in the attic for a few hours in 100+ degree heat.

Friday and Saturday were spent various things from Laura’s house to her new apt and stuff from my house to Laura’s house. Everything went rather smoothly except for one friggin’ couch. We took off doors, tried to take off legs, tried every conceivable angle to get that couch into their apartment, but it just wasn’t happening. So Laura ended up giving it to Tim to have at the house I was all of my stuff out of.

After everyone’s stuff around on Saturday we all went to our seperate residences to begin setting the places up, which I admittedly didn’t do much of. I’m just a slight procrastinator… I consequently still have a considerable amount left to do in my room with unpacking of clothes and such.
