As most of you know my brother Jesse no longer lives in the U.S. but in Italy studying to become a monk. This past week he took his Simple Vows and took a new monastic name of Br. Peter. My parents were lucky enough to be able to visit for this occasion and here is my Dad’s account of the trip:
Hi Everyone,
We headed over last Saturday to attend Jesse’s reading of his Vow Chart.
We arrived Sunday morning; 2 hrs flight time to Atlanta and another 9 hrs to Rome, then a 2 hr drive to Norcia in the mountains, left us pretty beat. There was a soccer tournament in town and all the hotels were booked solid, so we stayed with the Poor Claire’s. The nun’s have a section of their convent that they use as a bed & breakfast. Its simple, but they can really cook! Jesse had a chance to spend a bit of time with us between Vespers and Compline, so we took a walk outside the walls of the town and through the marshes. The sky was such a deep blue and the hills on all sides were tall green pastures or forest lands. Jesse is re-reading LOTR and says it reminds him of Rohan. Its truly a beautiful place.

Zach just sent me the most awesome NCAA Div-IA football schedule I have ever seen. Well, to tell you the truth I’ve seen it before, in previous years to project those schedules, but it’s been a while. By no means am I or Zach taking credit for this, I just thought it was really cool. It has the most current picture of the team’s helmet to represent themselves on another team’s schedule. There are worksheets for all the major conferences: ACC, Big East, Big 10-leven, Big 12, C-USA, Independent (i.e. Notre Dame, etc.), MAC, Mountain West, Pac 10, SEC, Sun Belt, and WAC. It also has a worksheet for Games of the Week with each time slots match up. Here’s the link: 2007 college football schedule.xls. May it drain many a color laser printer it’s toner.

In less than a week the Rangers have gotten rid of Kenny Lofton, Mark Teixeira, Ron Mahay, and Eric Gagne for three no-name major leaguers and SIX minor leaguers. This all reminds me of a horrible movie that I’ve never seen called Major League: Back to the Minors. It seems that now half the team is minor leaguers. I wonder if I’ll see any of them at spring training next March if I have another chance to go, I highly doubt it. I guess things can only look down from here for the Texas Rangers.

The weekend started early with Andy’s bachelor party at Chris and I’s house on Thursday night. He was genuinely surprised to see both a gas grill and a wood burning smoker sitting on the back porch for him wrapped in rainbow colored ribbon and big pink bows. We had a great group of guys over for some beer, fajitas, super burgers, and poker. Along with country music and Guitar Hero, we also watched Rounders in the background while playing poker.
