…both literally and figuratively. There are many things you can count on in life and one of those things is that mosquitos are a pain in the ass, or in my case, a pain in the hand. I got murdered by thousands of these little suckers at Camp Rio Blanco in Crosbyton, TX this weekend while helping out at Raider Awakening 39. One of them managed to find a crease inside my palm and it won’t stop itching! Oh well, a small price to pay, right?

Raider Awakening 37 was this past weekend (Oct. 19-21) and aside from a minor head cold it was another great one. It just so happens that this time I was Tech Staff head in charge of 10 others. If you look hard enough on Facebook you’ll be able to see a picture of all of us on Big Blue, Atmos Energy’s tailgating smoker. We had it hitched to one of Chris’ work trucks to bring out to help Cook Staff get some cooking done, they were quite appreciative. As far as I could tell everything went off without a hitch. I would just like to shower some praise on my staff for the incredible job they did. Nothing was forgotten, everything was taken care of on time, and each one of them was willing to help out immediately if there was something that needed to be done, it was great. I don’t think I could have picked a better bunch of guys and I am grateful that they dedicated themselves and committed to the weekend. I definitely couldn’t have done it without them.

This brand spankin’ new Canon PowerShot S5 IS showed up at my door during lunch today. Katie and I had ordered it either Saturday or Sunday, I can’t remember which. Katie noticed over the last few months that her camera had been taking increasingly blurrier photos. She is a big picture taker and it was starting to bother her. Instead of picking out another small pocket-sized point and shoot digital camera we decided to invest in a camera with a semi-professional looking zoom and various other capabilities. One really cool feature of this camera is it’s ability to take video of up to 1hr long or 2GB of space, whichever comes first. That’s pretty cool to me. Now we won’t need to worry about getting a video camera. If Katie will let me I plan on taking it out to Camp Rio Blanco in Crosbyton, TX this weekend for Raider Awakening 37 to see if we can get some good shots of the scenery out there. We’ll see!
Observations or stuff that has happened lately in no particular order:
I proposed to Katie on Aug. 21 and a date is set for June 21 ‘08.
One of my current doctors is the least PC adult I’ve met in a long time and it’s hilarious.
Raider Awakening is a little over six weeks away.
Brian is moving back to Texas but, instead of Lubbock he will be in Dallas. Finally!
Tech beat SMU 49-9.
Andy makes some freakin’ awesome ribs.
My brother is now Br. Peter Jesse Bares, Peter being his monastic name.
Rehab sucks. However, I am told I am progressing quite well.
I’ve hit a bit of a snag in poker lately having a bad run of nasty beats over the last month or so.
Katie and I registered at Bed Beth & Beyond, Sears, and Target this weekend. It was exhausting.
I’m doing my best to keep cheerful about my work situation.
I will be able to play football/volleyball/ultimate frisbee again in about three and half months.
I am most definitely enjoying the new iPod I bought last week even though Apple came out with new versions of all their iPods today.
Three weeks from now I will be visiting Dallas to see my brother in his first trip back to the States in almost two years.
This Saturday will be the first Tech home game in eight or nine months when the Miners from El Paso show up to get stomped by the Red Raiders.

This past weekend was spent in Dallas for nine of those of us on Raider Awakening Leadership for RA37. Excuse me, eight, Corie wasn’t able to go with us at the last minute because of a family emergency, so prayers for her family, definitely. It was a great whirlwind of a weekend getting into Highland Village, where my parents live, just before 11pm Friday night and leaving after Mass and picking up lunch on Sunday at about 12:15pm. Here’s a little recap of the weekend:

Every once in a while I’m not having a good couple of days and I’m in need of something to make me smile. Well, today that happened. During RA Leadership bonding my Dad sent me a picture mail from his cellphone. This is one of my dog at home, Khaki, and I’ll just pretend that she misses me. Enjoy.
