Burn After Reading

Burn After Reading

…is hilariously morbid. I’m pretty sure the only way you will like this movie is if you are a big fan of The Big Lebowski. Katie and I saw this for free at the Studio Movie Grill in Plano on Wednesday. I laughed so hard at a few parts I cried. I also think that unless you are perhaps 35 or younger, or have the humor of someone that age, you probably won’t enjoy it as much as Katie and I did.

The Dark Knight

The JokerThis.Movie.Was.Awesome. Katie and I went to AMC 24 Stonebriar and it rocked the house. Our showing was Sunday at 10am. First show of the day. It was packed. The fullest I’ve ever seen a Sunday showing of any movie and any time of the day, let alone the first movie being shown. It’s the most intense, and best, movie I’ve seen so far this year and I predict it to stay that way. Look for one of the early scenes with The Joker and his “magic trick.” It was ridiculous. Whatever you do, don’t miss this movie in theaters.

Lucky Number 313

I finally got around to combining Katie and I’s movie collections. We now have over 300, it’s kinda ridiculous. That’s just DVD’s. Katie has about another 25-30 VHS tapes. That just means I’ll have to go get a DVD recorder and some blank DVD’s to copy them over so I can get rid of those space consuming bastions of 80’s technology.

Iron Man

Iron Man

Iron Man was a great start to the “summer” movie season. Like plenty of other reviews I’ve read you will hardly notice the special effects, they aren’t distracting at all, they feel pretty natural. Suffice it to say that if you liked any of the recent super hero , especially Batman Begins, then you’ll dig this one, too. To me it’s better than all the X-Men and Spider-Man sequels. I’d recommend eating white cheddar cheese popcorn, beef jerky, and drinking Sunkist like Kevin and I did, it was great.

GO. SEE. IT.

Shoot Em Up

Shoot Em UpThis is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous I have ever seen. Katie and I spent all day Saturday working on wedding invitations and needed some unwind time so we decided to pick up some Taco Villa and a movie from Blockbuster and hang out with Mark, Laura, and Kolbe. At Blockbuster they were having a previously viewed 3 for $20 sale and actually had some good on display. We ended up getting Spider-Man 3, 3:10 to Yuma, and Shoot Em Up. I had been wanting to see it because the trailers made it look like a funny, completely implausible action movie and it was the one out of the three that we got that we hadn’t seen yet. Needless to say that it did not disappoint in the ridiculousness department. I think the gunfights while holding a baby in one arm seemed to put the icing on the cake for this Clive Owen flick.

21 and Vantage Point

21Friday Katie and I went to the drive-in and caught 21 and Vantage Point on their third screen. We had a great time and really enjoyed both , something of a rarity for us when going to the drive-in.

21 was pretty awesome. From watching that movie it gave me a new found appreciation for math “geniuses.” Never in my wildest dreams could I even think about counting cards to win money in Vegas. The only way I’ll win money there is to get extremely lucky.

Vantage Point was really cool as well. I really liked the concept of showing the same time frame of actions from each character’s own perspective and continually going back to the start in which to do that. There were definitely some things that caught me off guard, but one of the important ones that would have kept the movie a little more suspenseful for a bit was spoiled in the trailers if anyone caught it. I won’t give it away though.

I would definitely recommend both of these to anyone that’s interested.
