… at least for right now. Most of you know that I had been applying for the Special Agent position with the FBI. I had successfully completed the first round of testing in July of ‘07. In late November ‘07 I received a letter saying that my application was being put in “inactive status” because of the large volume of applicants and there were plenty of more qualified folks ahead of me and so I was resigned to that fact.

Yesterday I got a letter from the FBI saying that “due to the extremely large pool of applicants and the very competitive nature of the hiring process that you have not been selected for further processing to Phase II. Your application will now be placed in inactive status…” Phase II = 1 hr long, 15 question, structured interview; an in depth writing exercise or case write-up and a physical fitness test.
Undoubtedly this is disappointing as becoming a Special Agent for the FBI is something that has greatly appealed to me over the last several years and I was hoping that I would be able to get in.
In the letter it said to contact them if I felt that I have gained a new skill or experience that would help make my application more appealing. Over the next year I’ll still be working on my physical aspect of that along with my knee rehab and I hope to apply again later in 2008.

So today I got an e-mail back from a guy that Andy knew of who works in the FBI office here in Lubbock after about two-ish weeks of no word from him. He invited me to stop by the office and he’d be more than happy to chat with me. Well, as anyone who has seen me in the last 8-9 months would know my hair is ridiculously long and in no way FBI office visit appropriate. During lunch I decided it was time to do something about it. I went to Howard’s Barber Shop on University and 34th to get the mopped chopped. I am glad that I finally did it with summer coming up and my head is considerably cooler now as a result.

So, Katie’s been raggin’ on me to start working on getting in good shape if I’m going to be serious about training for the physical portion of the FBI Special Agent hiring process. She also has been wanting to do more working out, blah blah blah, all that to be more healthy, both of us actually. Jorge told Katie that Shox work really well for his running and he runs about 15 miles a week on them. Her and I went to the mall yesterday to take advantage of some of the Christmas shopping sales to get some Nike Shox, coming highly recommended by Jorge.

A little in our back yard and some around the medical complex at Covenant, it doesn’t want to go away. At least it’s winter now and colder on a regular basis, definitely some enjoyable weather.
Work has been pretty slow. For that matter, work has been pretty slow for the last two months. It’s getting pretty hard to stay focused when there isn’t much to do… blah.

I had been delaying the inevitable until last week when I finally set myself up with a doctor’s appointment for both my knee and hand. I had sustained injuries to both while playing outdoor soccer and only exacerbated them by continuing to play outdoor as well as indoor. I was able to put it off for about a month and continue to play by just wearing a brace on my knee but the problem wasn’t getting any better. So I went in and got the doc’s to check me out.
Last week I had x-rays of both my hand and knee, they came back showing no broken bones, which is good. Since I had considerable swelling in my hand and having it still very sore to the touch my doctor gave me a brace to wear of which I’m sure some of you saw, big poofy uncomfortable thing it is.
