Both Andy and Jared invited me to the Tech baseball game after telling me that we had beaten No. 2 Missouri 3-2 in the 9th the day before. It just so happens that they would revisit such late game heroics today. The Red Raiders got off to a horrible start being down 5-0 before they got anything going but stayed in the game and gave themselves a chance late. They tied the game at 7-7 late but gave up 4 more runs to go down.
That brings us to the 9th inning. We were down 11-9 and tied it up at 11’s. Then we got one out. Man on third. Missouri decides to walk our 4 and 5 hitters bringing up 6. No big deal right? He gets a few pitches and then JACKS a walk-off grand slam for the 15-11 win capping off a 6-run 9th and the series win. My voice is still hoarse. Go Tech.

The final day of Spring Training went quite well. We breakfasted at the hotel and packed up our stuff and checked out to head down to Diablo Stadium in Tempe for the final game of the week that pitted the ANH Angels against the AZ D’backs.
Before we headed to the game we ate at Pischke’s, which is a Parrothead’s paradise. We all got Spring Training ‘07 “No Sniveling” t-shirts. The only major side note from lunch other than us all basically ordering the “Cheeseburger in Paradise” was Jacob’s battle with “The Atomic Jalapeno.” I will take the blame for goading him into it, but Grandpa Jack supplied the jalapeno, so I’m not ALL to blame.
Today’s game was the special one for Uncle Peter and Jacob as they are both the Angels fans of the group, my Dad and I being the Rangers fans, and Uncle Peter and Grandpa Jack just coming along for the ride. By the time we had to leave the Angels were up 3-2 and by just now checking ESPN.com, the Angels finished off the D’backs 8-3.
Time to get on the airplane, this concludes Spring Training Trip ‘07, I’m quickly looking forward to next year.

Day 4 began much the same as Day 2 and 3 with breakfast at the hotel before some relaxation from an admittedly late night before.
After breakfast we headed super early to the ball park to watch morning practice for the Rangers. This was the coolest part of Spring Training thus far, especially for Dad as he remarked, “now THIS is what I have always envisioned Spring Training to be.” We got to see them take basic infield practice, the pitchers throw to all the catchers in a row (very cool when all at the same time), outfielders and infielders play “illegal pepper,” and Sammy Sosa run from field to field to avoid everyone hounding him for autographs, not that I blame him all that much, he needed practice.

Day number three started off the same as day number two, with an unhealthy, heapin’ helpin’ of the “free Continental breakfast,” some fireside chat out on the restaurant patio, and some more general rabble rousing. After breakfast Dad, Uncle Peter, Jacob, and I all went outside and had a good game of catch for a good while to get in the swing of things for the day. After catch there was a small bit of down/relax time by the pool and then it was off to the ballpark for KC Royals versus Ch White Sox.

Day 2 started off nicely, waking up around 8ish, having the “free Continental breakfast” that consisted of a big helping of scrambled eggs, four sausage links, about eight strips of bacon, a biscuit and sausage gravy, diced potatoes, and three mini-muffins. Not the healthiest of breakfasts, but certainly one of the best tasting considering the dismal surroundings that are our hotel.

It started off with a 5:15am wakeup call, leaving the house by 6am, arriving at the airport by 6:45am, and departing Dallas Love Field at 7:45am. The only notable thing before the flight: My Dad and I were in the “B” boarding group and after the “A” group had gone, the man in the front of the “B” group just started walking up to the Southwest ticket taker before being called and got snapped at it, it was pretty funny. The guy endured a bit of jeering from the rest of those waiting to get on the plane.
