Partially There

ACLToday I was lucky enough to get the results back from my MRI that I had taken of my left knee last Friday. My PCP (Primary Care Physician) called me with the report that I had torn my ACL, strained my MCL with damage nearly torn, had large areas of bone marrow edema (deep tissue bone bruises), and moderate size joint effusion (severe joint bruising). I did this all on April 15th during a game and then re-injured it during a fall in my shed a week later.

After the swelling, pain, and mobility/flexibility of it didn’t get any better I set myself up with an appointment to see my doctor last Wednesday. As I had imagined X-rays that were taken showed no sign of injury. I had a pretty good feeling that it was ligament damage because of when it happened I had planted my foot and then heard two loud ‘pops’ as my knee popped inside and out. What’s crazy is that one of my teammates said that he heard the same two ‘pops’ and turned around to see me down on the ground.

Once I had gotten the results from my doctor this morning he had one of his nurses set me up with any appointment with an orthopedic doc for this upcoming Wednesday at 9am. Hopefully I won’t need surgery but I still don’t have full range of motion back in my knee without pain after over a month now, so who knows. I’d be lucky to just need to have some physical therapy and a hardcore knee brace to continue on with and running. It’s starting to look like my days of playing are pretty much over.

For those of you wondering that picture up top is an illustration of the damage to the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in the middle of my knee with the tear, thank God it wasn’t a ruptured ACL which means a complete tear.
