This is a picture of the screw that was removed from my left tibia on Monday. Pretty gnarly, eh? The screw on the right fits through the center of the washer lock on the left. This little, or big, piece of hardware is what caused the problems apparently. From the post operative notes I received and my first check-in today the hardware was infected, as well as some soft tissue and bone around the screw. The doc yanked that out, performed an I&D (incision and drainage) of the surrounding bone and soft tissue, and an allograft bone graft onto the tibial screw site. It looks pretty cool. I’ll take a picture of it once the swelling has gone down and the stitches have been removed. I just wanted to let everyone know that it went well and that I appreciated every one of your prayers.
