There is very real truth in having to put in good effort into something to get something back. I had always heard this from people but it didn’t hit me until this weekend at RA36. When I staffed RA33 I didn’t have the best experience, I was just blah and “just there” the whole weekend and it wasn’t particularly enjoyable.
I realized the reason for this is because I was just blah and “just there” the whole weekend. I only did what had to be done and not necessarily needed and should have been done.
This time staffing at RA36, the entire weekend just felt markedly different and I came to the realization that it was because I “put in work.” Ha. I took ownership of my responsibilities, extended myself more than last time, and made myself available whenever something was needed. I got so much more out of it because I put more in. My goal wasn’t to get more out of it this time but to make up for the last time I staffed and to be there for the retreaters more fully.
I look forward to being a staff head for the next retreat in October and I wanted to thank everyone who helped make this a “massive” weekend for both the retreaters and I.

I just wanted to say that Jared, you did an outstanding job and I couldn\’t have asked for a better person on my staff. It was clear to me that you were working hard and working for the right reasons. Thank you and God Bless!!!
