Well, this weekend sure was a doozy. It started off waking up at 4:45am on Friday in order to finish packing and getting ready to go pick up Kristen for our trip to The Woodlands and College Station for the Tech/A&M game. I pick her up from LuLu’s and we head out of the LBK at around 5:45am ready to brave the 9+ hour drive from Lubbock to The Woodlands. The drive from Lubbock to The Woodlands is a pretty uneventful one except for getting to see the large assortment of roadkill. We saw several deer split in half as well as a few more just already having rigormortis(sp?) set in makin’ them all stiff looking. I, myself helped contribute to the roadkill count by obliterating a pidgeon that didn’t feel the need to move while I was driving 70mph, so it met an untimely demise, Kristen didn’t think it was very nice though, haha. We arrived at The Wood around 2:30pm and I got to meet her Dad and bro for a second time, but first time as “the boyfriend”, so there was a little distinction made there, kinda funny, her family rocks. Then me, her and her little sister Helen “watched” Super Troopers. I say “watched” because we all fell asleep about 10 minutes into it because of how freakin’ tired we all were. Helen wasn’t feeling so well so we just got her some food cuz she was hungry and then Kristen and I got something as well and we all went over to Aunt Terry’s, where I would be staying the night, and just chatted and looked at old family photos of the Hefferly’s til about midnight. That was definitely some fun times. The next morning I got all ready to go and what do ya know? Kristen shows up 30 mins late, but it’s not to be unexpected with her, hehe. We got some breakfast and then headed on to College Station to meet my parents and brother, who goes to A&M, for brunch at Denny’s. It was good to see them, I hadn’t in several months. The whole gang then parked at St. Mary’s and walked back to Jesse’s dorm and had some really good conversation on discernment and things of the sort. By the way, the Honors dorms are unfairly huge, just thought I would point that out. Then it was time to walk on down to Kyle Field for the game. Kristen and I didn’t have tickets and figured we could find some on the way over and if not we would just listen to it on the radio while he headed back to The Woodlands. As luck would have it we ended up getting $160 worth of tickets for $90 and went and sat with the rest of the Texas Tech fans. I really enjoyed the game, I didn’t get my hopes up on purpose for this game because any rivalry game Tech plays, regardless of how well they should play, they find a way to screw things up horribly, but sometimes they pull it out at the end. Well, this time that wasn’t the case, and I half expected that so I didn’t get all the upset at them losing. Some may call me not a diehard Tech fan, well, if you were a SMART diehard Tech fan, you would know that this kind of thing happens and to expect the worse and not get terribly frustrated and upset when these things indeed happen, which is something valuable I’ve learned. After that Kristen and I headed right out of the stadium and got to the parking lot of St. Mary’s as quick as possible to avoid the rush out of town, we did pretty good making it back to The Wood around 8:30pm. We got a little something to eat and then chatted with Aunt Terry again for a few hours until it was time to get to bed in order to have a little sleep before the long trip back to Lubbock that would routinely start at 5:30am Sunday morning. We started the day and ended the day with rain, it was pretty bad. Especially since I started dozing off and had to have Kristen drive for about an hour and a half, which completely freaked her out by the way, that was the longest she had driven straight, the most in the rain, and with the big trucks on the highway, so needless to say she was a little freaked out and needed me to finish driving once we got a little past Abilene. Then it was the home stretch of 84 that would take us to Lubbock with us arriving aroun 2:45pm. We then went and dropped of some Citrus Drop and Dr. K for Pat, Andy, and Mike along with some of their mail from Aunt Terry’s. Then we were off to give Laura some of her mail but saw them driving and decided to follow them to Rosa’s and we all chatted together ’til it was time for Mass at 5pm. After Mass we went to On The Border, always some good food, and Chris picked up the tab AGAIN, that man is awesome, he is one of the most generous guys I have ever met. Then I took Kristen by LuLu’s to pick up her laundry and then back to her dorm. When I was done dropping her off I headed over to The Vatican where Brian and Sadie were waiting to go see The Incredibles. That movie is HILARIOUS! We all thoroughly enjoyed it, definitely a crowd pleaser and one I would recommend to those of all ages, not just for the little kiddies.
