The wedding weekend was off to a great start when my work day ended early on Friday just after 4pm. I rushed home, finished packing and then Chris stopped by and we were off to the airport for our 6:40pm flight with a stop off at McAlister’s for dinner. We both picked up something we hadn’t tried before and were not disappointed, it’s definitely a good place to eat if any of y’all haven’t been there and get a chance to.
Much to Chris and I’s chagrin our flight is already delayed to 6:55pm when we arrive at the airport. Then we end up sitting on the tarmac for a while and don’t end up leaving the airport until nearly 7:30pm. If we had left on time we would have almost been landing at this point as the flight from Lubbock to Dallas usually isn’t any longer than 50 minutes long. No matter, my Dad picked us up, my Mom ordered us pizza, and we started James Bond 007 in Thunderball a little bit after getting home, so Friday ended better than it had started.
Saturday began with some breakfast and newspaper. It was un-decorating time and so Chris and I helped my parents take down the Christmas accouterments all throughout the house. We then headed to the mall to pick up some wedding gifts for Kevin and Megan’s wedding later that day and did some more over all moseying around. This is where the very bad part of the day begins and will be denoted with asterisks.

While Chris and I were out shopping my Mom calls me and informs me to go pick up my sister from work at 1pm knowing that we have Kevin and Megan’s wedding at 3pm in Arlington which is nearly a 45 minute drive from my parents house. Well, she’s not ready to leave work before 1:15pm. THEN we have to take her to her apartment which is about 10 minutes farther from my parents house, so we don’t get home ’til 2pm. Then Chris and I have to get ready, suits, blah blah blah, and we pile Lisa in the car and head out at 2:30pm. We have good directions, take the Abram St. exit and I turn East on Abram St. instead of West. I then proceed to get us lost in Grand Prairie instead of Arlington for about another 15-20 minutes. We finally figure out where we are supposed to be going and don’t end up getting there until just before 4pm, walking into the church while everyone is kneeling down after receiving communion. So I ended up causing Chris, Lisa, and I to completely miss Kevin and Megan’s special day. Needless to say I come out looking like the world’s biggest [expletive]-hole for missing one of my really good friend’s weddings. I totally deserved it and take it all on me for the whole thing.

Thank God that the reception was in the building directly behind the church so that I couldn’t make us late to that. The reception was awesome, lots of coming of age pics of Kevin and Megan in a slideshow, plenty of dancing and all the traditional reception activities. It was great seeing many of my friends that no longer live in Lubbock and to do a little networking for Raider Awakening. After the reception we drove back to Megan’s parents house, dropped off gifts that attendees had brought to the reception, picked up the rest of Katie’s things and headed home. We watched a little bit of Star Trek: First Contact with my parents and we all hit the sack.
Sunday we all successfully made it to the church on time since I knew EXACTLY where to go and how long it took to get there so as not to make us late. After Mass we all went over to Megan’s parent’s house for post-Mass brunch before everyone headed out of town to go home. We ate, were merry, and helped set up the gifts for the newlyweds to open. Unfortunately we didn’t stay to watch them open all their gifts as we had to get back to Lubbock. Katie slept the whole way home in the back seat while I drove for the first 1:30 before Chris took over the rest of the way and I slept for another 2:00.
Once we arrived in Lubbock we dropped Chris off at the airport to pick up his car and then Katie and I came back to my place to drop off me and my stuff. She went home, unpacked, etc. and then came back over and we ate Taco Villa for dinner and watched Con Air with Andy, Abby, and Pat.
That was how my weekend went…

Hey man,
Sorry you had such a fiasco trying to get to the wedding…that pretty much sucks all around! Of course, that will make a great story that you can use to console others with if they get upset about being lost and late to something…you can tell them you were a bigger screw-up than they were…isn’t that great? At least the rest of the weekend was fun.
Pax,
Br. Jesse
