Official: Next-Gen DVD Format War Over

Blu-Ray WinsAccording to Gizmodo, Toshiba will be announcing today that they will no longer be creating or researching the HD DVD format and instead conceded defeat to Sony’s Blu-Ray as the winner of the latest “format war.” I don’t plan on picking up a Blu-Ray player any time soon because of how ridiculously expensive they still are, as were DVD players when they first came out, but eventually I probably will. With the HDTV market becoming increasingly more affordable and the likelihood that the high definition DVD market following shortly this is pretty good news as to relieve consumer confusion over the differences. No, you won’t be able to play Blu-Ray DVD’s on your current player, however, once the prices come down on the Blu-Ray players, your current collection of standard definition DVD’s will still just fine and may also look a little nicer due to a feature called up-scaling.

MRE for Lunch

CondimentsA few days back my boss, John, came in and started handing out everyone a little brown package in a sealed plastic bag. John, a former member of the US Air Force, thought it’d be fun to bring everyone in the office an MRE. I was told that I lucked out with the Chicken/Rice combo, Menu No. 8. Along with the here is a rundown of what I got: Orange Drink Mix (Tang), Taster’s Choice: Original Blend (coffee), Domino Sugar, Tabasco, Lighthouse napkins, Cream Substitute: non-dairy, matches, moist towelette, chiclets, peanut butter, vegetable crackers and for dessert - a Sterling Fudge Brownie. Enjoy.

There’s my brownie, crackers and peanut butter.

Last, but not least. My orange “drank” and my chicken/rice pouch in the heater mixed with water to warm it all up.

Fun with Credit Card Companies

Anyone tired of getting credit card apps in the junk mail everyday? I know I am. Keep in mind that this won’t reduce the amount of your junk mail but just give you something to have fun with.

Fun with Credit Card (or other Junk Mail) Companies:

1. Open the junk mail.
2. Set aside pre-paid return envelope (if there isn’t one then just shred everything)
3. Shred everything else that came in the envelope (remove all personally identifiable info first)
4. Pack the pre-paid return envelope with shredded junk mail
5. Seal it and put it in the mail and flip up the flag

It’s pretty easy. I got one of these crap junk applications from Washington Mutual in the mail yesterday and decided to brighten my day by confusing some poor mail room person for WaMu. Try it, it’s surprisingly the therapeutic.

Stephanie & Mark’s Wedding

Me, Stephanie, Katie

Stephanie Drawe Godfrey’s wedding was this past weekend and Katie and I were invited to help celebrate with them in Plano, TX.

After Friday, Katie and I headed to my parent’s house in Denton County. We relaxed for a bit with my parents and hit the sack. Saturday with Stephanie and Mark was great. I had only met Mark once before the wedding. Him and Stephanie met up with them at a game last summer during a weekend trip. They looked great together and I took plenty of you can see HERE.

Once we got home from the reception we had a nice dinner right off the grill with my parents, sister and her boyfriend Frank who happens to be a really nice guy. Laura and him seem to be really happy and I hope that things continue to go well for them. I’ll look forward to seeing them both again in June at Katie and I’s wedding.

224 and Counting

The other day I finally got around to unwrapping and cataloging the new dvd’s I got for . That brings my total to 224. The one thing about getting married in June that I’m not looking forward to? Adding Katie’s collection of chick flicks to the list :)

Some of the notable new additions: Bourne Ultimatum, Catch Me If You Can, Live Free or Die Hard, Ocean’s 11-13, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

You can check the entire collection on my Movies page.
