Sunflower Seeds

I can’t think of anything more disgusting than getting a handful of sunflower seeds, throwing them in your mouth, and then minutes later realizing you got one of those small flavored chunks of wood that was so small it accidentally made it through into the packaging process. Well, I really can think of things more disgusting but for the sake of exaggeration this is pretty sick. Anyone that has ever played baseball and gotten a bag of seeds before knows exactly what I am talking about. It always seems to pop up at the most inopportune time as well. Right in the middle of enjoying your seeds and then you bite into a small, slimy chunk of wood that usually gives you one of the nastiest tastes in your mouth you have ever had. We all know there are worse things but I just felt like sharing a minorly disgusting part of my day, adios.

Goodbye Shrek and Nix, Hello…

Kevin MenchLaynce NixWell, today it looks like the Texas felt it was necessary to get rid of one of their most popular players on the team in Kevin Mench (far left) a.k.a Shrek. They also included Laynce Nix, currently assigned to the minors, and closer Francisco Cordero, which is understandable, he had been playing sub-par baseball for quite a while now, eventually losing his closer spot to Akinori Otsuka.

Carlos Lee

The in exchange for Mench, Nix, and Cordero will receive Carlos Lee (left), and two minor leaguers, Nelson Cruz and Julian Cordero, no relation to Francisco. This all stinks pretty bad to me because I had really liked these guys. They were some of my favorite players and it was especially fun getting to see them this past March at Spring Training in Arizona. Lee better be the help we have been looking for to get ourselves into the playoffs this year.

Good luck Kevin and Laynce, everybody in Dallas is going to miss ya.

My Next Job

I have decided that my next job will be that of a Special Agent for the Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Investigations, . Over the next year I plan to train for the Physical Fitness Test which will be administered at my local Field Office in Dallas, Texas. This really isn’t some seemingly decision if you haven’t ever heard me mention something like this before. I had definitely expressed interest in it since freshman/sophomore year of college. My parents are good with a , the Gregory’s, that had several kids that swam with my brother and sister on their club swim team. My mom knowing that I was interested got in touch with Mr. Gregory, Special Agent Gregory, who works in the Dallas Field Office and setup a tour of his building for me.

Monster House

I took Katie to go see Monster House on Friday at Tinseltown at 7:00pm. It being opening weekend I figured we should probably be there about 30 mins early to get decent seats. It isn’t as bad going with just her because then I don’t have to save a bunch of seats, much easier to find just two next to each other. Well, when we got there we seriously could have sat in just about any seat we wanted, practically know one was there. Anyways, this was a weird one to kind of “review.” I thought it would be aimed more toward kids and the trailers definitely showed that to me. But actually seeing it I thought it was definitely too dark for most little kids that this would be marketed to. Overall I would say this was pretty underwhelming and I had a general sense of ‘blah’ about me when the movie was over, not a “that was awesome!” sense or “wow, that sucked!” but more of an “eh, it was alright.” kind of reaction to it. Katie said it was cute but not great, she said she’s seen better and I agree. I found myself trying to pick out the voice actors and who they were and not paying so much attention to the flick, like I said, “eh.”

Postulate

I heard from my brother this morning, which was pretty awesome considering I haven’t really heard from him in a few months. I most get the updates from my mom since he tends to mostly call her. For those of you who don’t know, my brother is a postulate monk of the St. Benedictine order in Norcia, . He has been over there since September of last year, 2005, and is loving every minute of it. He gets homesick at times, which is only natural, but feels this is his true calling and wants to really see it through. He began his postulancy earlier this year and in late September of this year, 2006, he will begin his novitiate, so he will look like a full fledged monk. Right now he is only able to wear a portion of the monk garb. So by the time I see him in November for , I’ll get to that in a second, he will look like full on Catholic St. Benedictine monk!

Holy Melodas

Last night I had my second (outdoor ) game this season against the Holy Melodas team. This was the team we played against three weeks ago when I seriously banged up my knee, still feeling the effects of it. Well the guy I hit had his ankle all wrapped up, so I don’t feel like a complete baby, he still needs a little extra support, too. The first half got off to a bad start with a Penalty Kick because of a bad bounce into one of our defenders arms in the box for a hand-ball. Just one of those calls you have to make, otherwise it will look bad. One of their players informed me it was the only goal they had scored so far this season, bummer. Near the end of the first half I was able to set Jesse up for a nice tap in from about 6 yards out, tieing the game at 1-1 going into the half. Then in the second half we had the wind AND we were going down hill, both of those really helped, we didn’t have any subs and they had three, so we were gettin’ winded. Needless to say that’s when we turned it on. Along with the assist in the first half I had two goals in the second half. Albert and Carlos were each able to put one away as well and that contributed to the final score of 5-1.
