It’s Cold Outside

It's Cold Outside

I took this picture when I got home from today as it’s been freezing rain all day here in Frisco. It’s nice and cold with plenty of opportunity for burning the collected firewood, from Katie’s parents’ land, in the fireplace.

was great this year. Katie and I spent Eve with my parents taking a tour of the neighborhood all bundled up in my Dad’s Jeep with the top down and we finished the night with Polar Express on DVD and hot chocolate. We opened presents with my parents and went to Mass at 10am. Then we drove to Houston to spend dinner and more presents with Katie’s maternal grandparents. After that we went back to Katie’s parent’s house where we were staying the weekend and opened more presents with them and Katie’s brother Kevin. The day after was spent with Katie’s paternal grandmother and that side of the family for dinner and more presents. We went to her parents’ land the next day and loaded my truck up with as much free firewood as we could handle and that was the extent of our vacation and we rang in the New Year in super relaxed, chill style at my parents house with a fire and four games of Deluxe Wood Edition SCRABBLE.

Happy New Year!

Eye of Thundera

I’ve been a huge ThunderCats nerd ever since they came out in the late 80’s. There is light talk from time to time about making a live action movie version of the cartoon and I can only hope that it could look something close to as cool as this.

College Bowl Pick ‘Em

Link to results to be updated daily: 2008 Bowl Pick ‘Em

It’s that time of year. It’s time to put your bowl picking (or guessing) skills to the test. Andy and I talked about setting this up since his family has one but wanted to get in on a separate one. Standard operating procedure is to collect $5 from each person wanting to participate. It’s all or nothing (basically). The person with the most correct picks will win it all minus $5. Last place will get their $5 back for being a complete failure. You will also be asked to pick the margin of victory for the BCS Championship as a tie-breaker for first or last place. So, if you think Florida will beat Oklahoma by 5, then your MoV will be UF by 5. The person’s pick closest to the final score would be the ultimate winner (everyone’s money minus $5) or the ultimate loser (getting your $5 back). I will keep track of the results daily and send out updates with the new days tally of leaders and cellar dwellers.

I’ve attached a spreadsheet for you to fill out and e-mail me back with your picks. I am also planning to go by a thrift store and find an old football trophy to use that will be awarded to the winner along with the cash.

If you are wanting to participate and don’t see me on a regular basis please mail your cash or check (wrapped in a sheet of 8×11 paper in thirds for concealment).

I must receive your picks no later than Friday evening 12/19/08 since the first bowl games are Saturday 12/20/08.

E-mail me for address.

R.I.P. Toshiba DVD Player

Toshiba DVD PlayerMy DVD player took a dirt nap on Sunday after marathoning the first 12 hours of 24: Season 2. Katie and I were watching 7:00-8:00pm and it froze so I turned it off and back on. It is now stuck perpetually on the “LOAD” screen no matter what DVD I put in it. We finished watching the episode on my laptop luckily. Due to the purchasing embargo placed on me by both Katie’s parents and mine, I have not been allowed to buy anything other than the bare essentials since Thanksgiving in the run up until . I’ve saved up a little bit and maybe if I get any funds then it might be time to upgrade to a Blu-Ray player or PS3 (which plays Blu-Rays). So no more DVD watching ’til unless it’s on my laptop. Lame.
